Ministry of Commerce shuts shop over false labels on 1,399 AC compressors

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has closed a violating shop and seized 1,399 used and refurbished air conditioning compressors of various brands and sizes after inspectors discovered they had been falsely relabelled with incorrect country of origin information.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry said the seizure was carried out by the emergency inspection team for Ahmadi and Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorates under the Department of Commercial Control and Consumer Protection during inspection campaigns targeting shops in the two governorates.
Inspectors found that the shop had removed the original country of origin labels and replaced them with labels bearing different origin details in an attempt to mislead consumers, exploiting the increased demand for air conditioning compressors during the summer season.

The ministry said the necessary legal action has been taken against the violator, the shop was immediately closed and the case has been referred to the competent authorities to complete the required legal procedures.
