Kuwait schools undergo summer maintenance as ‘Education’ prepares for new academic year

Ministry of Education is carrying out extensive summer maintenance work at schools across the country, with engineering teams repairing roof insulation at facilities affected by leaks and water seepage ahead of the upcoming rainy season.
The maintenance program is part of the ministry’s preparations for the new academic year. Engineering staff from the Department of Educational Projects and Facilities are working on a number of operating schools experiencing insulation and water leakage problems.
Schools prioritized according to maintenance needs
The ministry is also coordinating with the Public Authority for Housing Welfare to address observations and defects identified in newly constructed school buildings that remain within their contractual warranty periods.
The summer maintenance program is conducted periodically as a preventive measure ahead of the rainy season.
Engineering teams identify schools requiring repairs in each educational district and establish priorities based on the condition of roofs and other facilities and the urgency of the required maintenance.
How school roof insulation is repaired
Work on roofs affected by leaks and water seepage begins with thorough surface cleaning. Air-conditioning units, their accessories and any other obstacles on the roof are removed to provide clear access to the affected areas.
Engineers then identify the sources and locations of leaks and water seepage before carrying out the necessary treatment and installing new insulation. Once the insulation work is completed, the air-conditioning units and their accessories are reinstalled in their original positions.
Schools urged to keep roofs clear
Alongside the maintenance program, engineering teams annually circulate guidelines to school administrations aimed at protecting roofs and preventing water-related damage.
Schools are instructed to keep roofs clean, regularly clear drainage points and remove dirt and debris that could obstruct the flow of rainwater. These measures are designed to prevent water from accumulating on roofs during the rainy season.
Air-conditioning drainage also monitored
Maintenance measures also include checking the drainage of water from air-conditioning systems, including both split units and central air-conditioning systems.
Drainage pipes must be properly connected to the designated drainage network to prevent wastewater from reaching concrete surfaces, where it could contribute to water leakage or damage insulation layers.
Engineering teams also monitor rainwater drainage networks and related facilities to ensure they remain free of obstructions that could cause water to accumulate.
Any defects or problems appearing on school surfaces are addressed before they worsen and potentially affect the buildings, forming part of the ministry’s broader preventive maintenance program ahead of the rainy season.
