MEW completes over 75% of maintenance work ahead of summer surge

As part of its annual preparation for the high-demand summer season, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy has made notable progress in its scheduled maintenance of electricity generation units and water production plants, aiming to ensure service continuity and meet growing consumption needs.

76% of Power Generation Units Maintained

According to informed sources within the ministry, 76% of maintenance work on electricity generation units has already been completed. The remaining work is expected to conclude by the end of May, with the exception of two units that will be reintroduced into service at a later date, according to Al-Rai daily.

Once all units are integrated into the grid, the ministry’s electricity production capacity is projected to exceed 18,000 megawatts, supplemented by 1,000 megawatts sourced from the Gulf electrical interconnection network. This will strengthen the country’s energy supply, helping prevent major power outages during peak demand.

Summer Demand Expected to Be Met

The sources affirmed that the available and imported electricity should be sufficient to meet summer demand, provided that no emergency shutdowns occur, particularly during peak consumption hours.
75% of Water Stills Maintenance Completed

On the water supply front, the ministry has completed 75% of the maintenance work on its water production stills, with full completion also expected by the end of May. Officials noted that returning all stills to operation will rebuild the strategic water reserve, which had temporarily declined due to scheduled maintenance outages.

Stable Load Index Amid Rising Consumption

As of yesterday, the electric load index reached 13,600 megawatts, marking a rise in consumption compared to previous days. However, the index remains within the safe operational range, thanks to the reactivation of numerous maintenance-completed units and the purchase of 600 megawatts from the Gulf network.

This proactive approach reflects the ministry’s commitment to energy security and sustainability, ensuring that Kuwait is well-prepared to manage its electricity and water needs during the upcoming summer months.
