Malaysia extradites fugitive Kuwaiti Al-Musaileem after arrest in Kuala Lumpur

After nearly a decade on the run, fugitive Musaed Al-Musaileem was extradited to Kuwait today evening (Saturday) following his arrest by the Malaysian authorities, based on an international arrest warrant issued through Interpol at the request of Kuwait. He arrived on a Kuwait Airways flight that made a transit stop in Doha before landing in Kuwait.

Upon his arrival at the Kuwait International Airport, Al-Musaileem was received by the Kuwaiti security forces, who immediately initiated legal procedures, including his detention and prosecution.

Al-Musaileem had been sentenced in absentia to over 30 years in prison across six separate cases. Despite being listed among those eligible for the 2023 general amnesty, he did not take the opportunity to return to Kuwait and reconcile with the justice system, reports Al-Rai daily,

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef had issued a stern warning to individuals who have fled Kuwait and engaged in activities abroad that harm the country.

Al-Yousef said, “Those who chose exile and believed that distance would shield them from justice must understand —they will return, and many will do so in shame. They will not be able to stand with dignity among their people after targeting their homeland.”

He went on to say, “There is a vast difference between someone who returns proudly, having achieved academic or professional success abroad, and one who returns in disgrace, burdened by crimes and betrayal.”

Sheikh Al-Yousef emphasized that justice will prevail saying, “Justice is above all, and the law’s reach knows no limits. No one will escape their fate. Anyone who imagined Kuwait to be an easy target will soon learn, as others have before them, that Kuwait responds firmly and decisively to those who try to harm it.”

He concluded with a powerful message to others still abroad: “You will return. Do not come back with a blackened face.”
