Lebanon arrests suspects in Kuwait, Saudi-bound Captagon smuggling case
Lebanese authorities have thwarted two separate Captagon smuggling operations targeting Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, uncovering more than 10 kilograms of the illicit drug concealed inside children’s beds.
The investigation led to the arrest of suspects in Lebanon and involved close coordination with Kuwaiti authorities to dismantle part of the cross-border trafficking network.
According to the Central Drug Enforcement Bureau authorities seized 6 kilograms of Captagon pills, which had been concealed inside children’s beds using sophisticated method. This shipment was allegedly being prepared for smuggling into Kuwait.
The investigation also uncovered a second trafficking attempt of approximately 4.5 kilograms of Captagon pills that had been professionally hidden in the same way. The shipment was intended to be smuggled into Saudi Arabia.
Subsequent investigations led authorities to the sender’s location in Beirut, where security forces arrested a Lebanese national born in 1983 on suspicion of organizing the smuggling operation.
The Lebanese Ministry of Interior announced that, in coordination with Kuwait’s Directorate-General for Drug Control and through the Criminal Security Office at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Lebanon, authorities arrested one of the suspects linked to the Kuwait-bound operation.
Security forces also confiscated a quantity of narcotics found in the suspect’s possession.
The case highlights the close security cooperation between Lebanon and Kuwait in combating cross-border drug trafficking and preventing the distribution of Captagon in the region.
