Kuwait, Japan pledge to deepen strategic partnership, regional coordination
Kuwait and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across all fields and intensifying coordination at all levels, as the two countries seek to advance their common interests and further develop their comprehensive strategic partnership.
This came during a meeting between Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi in Tokyo, held as part of Sheikh Jarrah’s official visit to Japan.
The two ministers reviewed the long-standing historical ties between Kuwait and Japan and their continued development, particularly following the elevation of bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership last year.
56 years of diplomatic relations
The meeting also highlighted the importance of 2026 as a milestone year in Kuwaiti-Japanese relations, marking the 56th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The discussions underscored the two sides’ interest in maintaining momentum in bilateral relations and strengthening coordination and consultation through various channels.
Regional and international developments
The ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments and issues of common interest, with particular attention to the latest developments in the region. They discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing escalation and strengthening security and stability, reflecting the broader regional focus of their talks.
The meeting comes as both countries continue to develop their bilateral partnership while maintaining diplomatic coordination on issues affecting regional security and stability.
