Ethiopian woman fatally assaulted by compatriot husband succumbs to injuries
The General Department of Criminal Investigation has closed the case of an African woman who died after being assaulted, arresting her husband after he allegedly went into hiding following the incident.
According to a security source, the husband, who is of the same nationality as the victim, confessed during initial investigations to assaulting his wife following a dispute. He said he did not expect her injuries to be fatal and claimed he left the apartment believing she would recover before returning to reconcile with her.
The incident was reported to the Ministry of Interior the previous evening following a fight between the couple, during which the woman called for help. A Jahra security patrol went to the apartment and found the woman inside with blood covering her face. Paramedics examined her and determined that she had died.
Neighbors told authorities that the husband had left the apartment after assaulting her. Forensic investigators and the coroner examined the scene and found that the woman had sustained severe blows, resulting in fractures to her facial bones and skull, as well as internal bleeding that caused her death.
Investigators from the Jahra Governorate Investigation and Search Department intensified efforts to locate the husband after finding that his phone had been switched off and his name had been placed on the no-fly list.
Investigators later received information that he was staying with a friend in Jahra Governorate. Officers went to the location and arrested him. During questioning, the suspect admitted to hitting his wife several times with his fists during an argument, while maintaining that he had not expected the assault to cause her death.
The final legal classification of the case has not yet been determined. The Public Prosecution will decide whether the incident is classified as premeditated murder or manslaughter.
