Kuwait’s summer enters final phase today

As summer temperatures cool at night and the Suhail star signals milder weather, migratory birds, including the hoopoe, have begun arriving in Kuwait, marking the end of the heat.

  • The Al-Kulaibin season begins today, marking a 13-day transition from peak summer heat to more moderate temperatures, said Al-Ajari Scientific Center.

  • During Al-Kulaibin, temperatures moderate, with longer nights; initially, the day lasts 13 hours and 18 minutes, while the night is 10 hours and 41 minutes.

Al-Ajari Scientific Center has announced that summer is entering its final phase with the start of the Al-Kulaibin season today. This period, known for a rise in solar heat, marks the transition from peak temperatures to more moderate weather.

According to a statement to KUNA, the Al-Kulaibin season lasts 13 days and serves as a boundary between high and moderate temperatures. It is recognized as the sixth season of summer for Bedouin Arabs and the seventh in the solar and lunar calendar, as reported by Al Anba newspaper.

The center added that the stormy winds known as ‘poisons’ calm down during the Al-Kulaibin season, and the Earth’s interior cools by the end of the season. It noted that ‘Al-Kulaibin’ refers to two stars located at the end of the constellation of the Great Dog, as known to astronomers.

It also explained that during Al-Kulaibin, a gradual moderation in the atmosphere is observed, especially at night. The night hours continue to increase at the expense of the day; at the beginning of the season, the day lasts 13 hours and 18 minutes, while the night lasts 10 hours and 41 minutes.

With the decrease in high summer temperatures during the night and early morning hours, and the approaching appearance of the Suhail star signaling moderate temperatures, some migratory birds have begun to arrive in Kuwait. Among them is the hoopoe, one of the first birds to arrive, signaling the end of the heat in the country.

Kuwait serves as an important transit area for migratory birds. Some stay during the fall, winter, and spring seasons, departing in the spring, while many others pass through to other regions and return within the same season.

The hoopoe is a striking bird, known for its distinctive crest and unique flight pattern. It spends most of its time on the ground, foraging for worms, its favorite food. A photo of this beautiful bird was captured by Abdulmajeed Al-Shatti on Saturday in the Al-Daba’iya area in southern Kuwait.
