“Kuwait’s Medical Emergencies Department” handled over 173,000 cases throughout 2024

The Director of the Medical Emergency Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shatti, stated that the total number of cases handled in 2024 was 173,839, while the total number of urgent reports received by the Ministry was 137,914.
Dr. Al-Shatti, in a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Saturday, 18th January, following a ceremony honoring emergency medical technicians and the operations, supply, and support departments involved in providing emergency medical services during the Gulf Football Cup “Gulf 26,” stated that ambulances transferred a total of 144,478 cases last year, including 99,546 urgent cases.
The total number of non-urgent cases transferred amounted to 44,932, while 10,911 cases were related to road accidents. Additionally, 1,062 cases were transported by air ambulance, and 78 were transferred via medical evacuation. The administration also dealt with 506 cases involving patients arriving and departing through ports and organized 97 mock exercises during the year.
Dr. Al-Shatti praised the tremendous efforts of the management, ambulance teams, and emergency medical services in providing care to more than a quarter of a million Gulf Cup fans, participating teams, official delegations, and Kuwaiti guests, including media professionals, over a period of 13 days.
Moreover, Dr. Al-Shatti highlighted the involvement of approximately 463 individuals, 50 ambulances, golf cars, and four-wheel-drive bicycles in the operation. He also noted that 200 emergency technicians were trained on stadium injuries, and during the event, 517 cases were handled.
Dr. Al-Shatti stated that the paramedic program reached 15,000 beneficiaries in each household, and an additional 3,500 people benefited from cardiovascular resuscitation activities conducted in October of the previous year.
