Kuwait warns cooperative society boards of possible dissolution over violations

- Social Affairs Minister demands compliance with Kuwaitization rules, workforce regulations and food safety standards, declaring an end to warnings without enforcement
The Ministry of Social Affairs is tightening oversight of cooperative societies, warning that boards of directors that violate ministerial decisions, official circulars or applicable regulations could face dissolution under the law.
Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah stressed that compliance with the ministry’s directives is mandatory for all cooperative society boards, with no leniency for violators.
She called on boards to fully implement the policy of Kuwaitization by prioritizing the employment and placement of Kuwaiti nationals, while adhering to the regulations and work systems established by the Public Authority for Manpower.
The minister also emphasized the need to maintain cleanliness inside cooperative societies and central markets, and to ensure that the goods offered for sale meet required standards for quality, type and safety. These measures are intended to protect consumers and safeguard their rights.
Dr Al-Huwailah warned that any board found failing to comply with ministerial decisions, circulars or applicable requirements would face firm action, which could include dissolution of the board in accordance with the law.
She confirmed that the ministry will continue inspections and field monitoring to ensure the directives are implemented in practice, stressing that the period of issuing warnings without taking action had ended. Accountability, she said, would be enforced on the ground without exceptions or leniency.
