More than 85 women join Lebanese Embassy’s breast cancer awareness and well-being

  • More than 85 women attend an awareness event combining early detection, emotional health, physical activity and a moving message of solidarity

A powerful message of awareness, hope and solidarity brought more than 85 women together as the Embassy of Lebanon in Kuwait hosted the second edition of its Breast Cancer Awareness and Health and Wellness event on Saturday, October 24.

The gathering combined expert guidance, practical health advice and personal expressions of encouragement, highlighting the importance of protecting women’s health in both body and mind.

Organized in cooperation with the Lebanese Women’s Council in Kuwait, the event created a welcoming space for women to learn, share experiences and connect around a common cause: encouraging prevention, promoting early detection and supporting those affected by breast cancer.

Mona Haddad Al-Khoury, wife of Lebanon’s ambassador to Kuwait, opened the event by reaffirming the embassy’s commitment to making the initiative an annual tradition. She emphasized that knowledge and awareness are vital in confronting breast cancer, encouraging women to take an active role in safeguarding their health and making informed decisions.

Al-Khoury stressed that early detection and regular screening can save lives, while access to reliable information empowers women to make confident choices about their well-being. She also highlighted the importance of mental and emotional health, noting that true wellness extends beyond physical health to include emotional balance and psychological resilience.

The program offered a blend of expert insights and practical guidance. Dr. Joanne Hanz led a session on mental and emotional health, exploring their influence on everyday life and overall well-being. Dr. Georgette Assal of Dar Al Shifa Hospital followed with a presentation on breast cancer prevention and routine screening, emphasizing how early detection can improve treatment opportunities and help reduce complications.

The focus then shifted from awareness to action during an interactive exercise session led by fitness trainer Rania Al-Khatib. Participants were encouraged to incorporate regular physical activity into their daily routines, complementing medical checkups and other preventive measures with healthier lifestyle choices.

One of the event’s most moving moments was the embassy’s “Tree of Wishes,” which offered participants a personal way to express hope and support. Women wrote messages, prayers and words of encouragement for health and recovery before hanging them on the tree. Each note became a small but meaningful gesture of solidarity with women facing breast cancer, demonstrating how compassion and shared hope can offer comfort during difficult times.

The gathering went beyond formal presentations, creating opportunities for participants to connect, exchange experiences and strengthen a sense of community. By bringing together medical awareness, emotional support and physical activity, the initiative presented women’s wellness as a shared commitment that extends beyond a single event.

At the close of the program, Al-Khoury thanked the sponsors and supporters whose contributions helped make the initiative possible. The Lebanese Embassy also expressed its appreciation to everyone who participated and contributed, reaffirming its commitment to initiatives that encourage screening, promote preventive care and support women’s physical and emotional well-being.

The event left participants with a message that extended beyond the gathering itself: awareness can encourage action, early detection can make a difference, and a supportive community can help women face health challenges with greater confidence and hope.
