Kuwait pushes bold GCC plan to unify food safety, protect consumers

Minister of State for Development and Sustainability Reem Al-Fulaij headed Kuwait’s delegation to the 10th ministerial meeting of officials responsible for food safety in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition said in a statement the meeting, held via video conference, forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen joint Gulf cooperation.
PAFN reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to advancing regional integration in food safety and security, while enhancing consumer protection and regulatory efficiency across member states.
The discussions focused on several key agenda items, including the draft unified food law for GCC countries, as well as mechanisms governing the imposition and lifting of bans on imports of animal-origin food products.
Officials emphasized the importance of unified Gulf legislation aligned with international standards and best practices, aimed at reinforcing food security and safeguarding public health across the region.
