GTD warns against using hazard lights while driving in rain
. . . says makes it difficult for other drivers to read a vehicle’s intended direction

The General Traffic Department has urged motorists to exercise caution during rainfall and avoid using hazard lights while driving, warning that they can obscure ‘turn’ signals and make it difficult for other drivers to identify a vehicle’s intended direction.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bu Hassan, Assistant Director of the Traffic Awareness Department in the Operations and Traffic Sector, said roads leading to Kuwait City were experiencing heavy congestion during the morning rush hour due to ongoing maintenance work on several main roads.
Meanwhile, he explained that maintenance on the Fourth Ring Road had directly contributed to congestion on the Fifth Ring Road, which has become an alternative route for motorists travelling along the Fourth Ring Road.
Speaking during the traffic segment of Kuwait TV’s “Good Morning Kuwait” programme, Bu Hassan advised motorists to follow traffic updates and bulletins published on the Ministry of Interior’s official websites. This helps select alternative routes and avoid congestion as much as possible, particularly during the morning rush hour when traffic heading towards the capital is the heaviest.
With the onset of winter and rainfall, he also urged drivers to check their tyres, ensure their windshield wipers were functioning efficiently and use their defoggers to maintain clear visibility. Bu Hassan stressed the importance of ‘cautious driving’ and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles when roads are wet.
