Kuwait plans 56 electricity network contracts to boost grid capacity, reliability

The Electricity Distribution Networks Sector at the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has included 56 contracts in its plan for the fiscal year 2026/2027, reflecting a strategic move to enhance the efficiency and capacity of Kuwait’s electrical grid in line with rapid urban expansion and population growth.

The initiative forms part of a comprehensive development program aimed at upgrading, maintaining, and modernizing the distribution network, which serves as the vital link between main substations and end users across the country.

According to the Ministry, the planned contracts will be submitted through the Central Agency for Public Tenders, as their estimated value exceeds the financial threshold of 75,000 dinars, reports Al-Jarida daily.

This ensures compliance with official tendering procedures, promoting transparency and equal opportunities for qualified companies.

The contracts cover extensive maintenance works for secondary substations across Kuwait’s governorates, including the Capital, Farwaniya, Hawalli, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, and Ahmadi. They also include repair, maintenance, and extension of medium-voltage cables, which form the backbone of the national distribution system.

In addition, the plan features upgrades to street lighting systems across various regions, including the installation of modern, energy-efficient technologies aimed at improving consumption efficiency and reducing operational costs.

This step is part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to modernize the national energy infrastructure, improve grid reliability, minimize unexpected outages, and support sustainable development goals by ensuring stable and efficient electricity services for all sectors.
