The new center in Al-Sabah Specialized Medical Area highlights the commitment to combat addiction, support recovery, and rehabilitate individuals for reintegration into society as active, contributing members.

The new addiction treatment center was designed to meet the highest international standards, serving as an integrated facility offering top-tier therapeutic and rehabilitation services, said Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, the Minister of Health.

The opening of the new addiction center underscores the Ministry of Healths commitment to providing advanced therapeutic services, and enabling individuals to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society positively and sustainably.

The new addiction treatment center was officially opened today in the Al-Sabah Specialized Medical Area, in the presence of Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi and Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah.

This significant step highlights the commitment to combat addiction, support recovery, and rehabilitate individuals to reintegrate into society as active, contributing members, according to Q8-Press.

This project aligns with the ministry’s vision to improve the quality of life for citizens and protect the community from drug-related risks, in line with the national strategy for combating and treating addiction.

In his speech at the opening, Al-Awadhi emphasized that the new addiction center, made possible by a generous donation from the National Cooperatives Committee, was designed to meet the highest international standards, serving as an integrated facility offering top-tier therapeutic and rehabilitation services.

He stressed the ministry’s commitment to utilizing all available resources to support individuals struggling with addiction and aid them on their path to recovery.

He added that the center is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Kuwait’s capacity for specialized healthcare and combat the spread of drugs, commending the efforts of the engineering and medical teams in establishing this new medical facility.

The Minister of Health also extended his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Amthal Al-Huwilah for her ongoing support and efforts in facilitating projects that improve the quality of life for individuals and society.

He praised the National Cooperatives Committee for their generous donation, which reflects their dedication to supporting national initiatives that benefit the Kuwaiti community.

For his part, Dr. Hussein Al-Shati, President of the Kuwait Center for Addiction Treatment, explained that the cooperative building is a notable addition to the center’s facilities. It consists of four floors with a capacity of up to 304 families.

Clinical capacity

The new building complements the medical services offered by the center’s original building, which has a clinical capacity of over 200 beds, bringing the total capacity of both buildings to more than 500 beds.

The ground floor of the new center is dedicated to rapid interventions and classification, while each floor features a spacious living room, dining area, lecture hall, reception area, buffet, meeting room, individual treatment rooms, a chapel, a store, and a patient lounge.

Parking facilities for over 100 cars

The building is also equipped with parking facilities for approximately 100 cars to ensure a comfortable and private experience for visitors, patients, and their families.

Dr. Al-Shati noted that the building is designated for patients in the advanced rehabilitative stages (Midway House), which consists of four phases, each lasting six to eight weeks. This program is supervised by specialized therapeutic teams to assess patient progress and help them achieve their therapeutic goals.

Promoting physical activity

He added that the building is equipped with a sports hall to promote physical activity as part of the comprehensive rehabilitation plan and follows a smoke-free policy to provide a healthy environment that supports recovery.

He pointed out that the building relies on a specialized nursing staff, offering services throughout the building from the first floor, focusing on emergency intervention and medical supervision.

Professional and educational development

The building also features multi-purpose rooms for administrative meetings, training programs, and guidance and recovery sessions, making it an integrated facility that combines treatment with professional and educational development.

It is worth mentioning that the opening of the new addiction center underscores the Ministry of Health’s commitment to addressing addiction challenges, providing advanced therapeutic services, and enabling individuals to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society positively and sustainably.
