Kuwait mulls reducing judges’ retirement age from 70 to 65

Informed sources revealed a proposal to amend the retirement decree by lowering the minimum retirement age for judges from 70 to 65.
According to Arabic daily Al Jarida, the Ministry of Justice has consulted the Supreme Judicial Council regarding the proposed change.
The sources stated that the standard retirement age for judges will be set at 65, with the possibility of annual extensions until the age of 70. They explained that such extensions are subject to yearly approval by both the Supreme Judicial Council and the Minister of Justice.
It is worth noting that the retirement decree for the Fatwa and Legislation Department is linked to the Judicial Decree, meaning the amendment would also apply to Fatwa advisors.
