Dolly Parton, country star, actor and philanthropist, dies aged 80

Dolly Parton, one of country music’s most celebrated singer-songwriters, has died aged 80. Her career spanned decades and produced classics including “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You” and “9 to 5,” while earning her 25 US country No. 1 singles and 10 Grammy Awards. She also enjoyed success as an actress and businesswoman.

Beyond entertainment, Parton was renowned for her philanthropy, particularly the Imagination Library, which has provided more than 150 million books to children worldwide.

Born into poverty in Tennessee, she rose from humble beginnings to become a global cultural icon whose music, wit and charitable work left a lasting legacy.
