Kuwait’s armed forces intercepted and destroyed hostile drones that entered the country’s airspace on Saturday, as authorities accused Iran of continuing acts of aggression targeting vital, government and military facilities.
The Ministry of Defense said the Iranian attacks targeted several strategic locations, including a government facility in northern Kuwait, military installations, and civilian vehicles belonging to a private company on Bubiyan Island.
The attacks caused material damage from falling debris and shrapnel, but no injuries or casualties were reported.
Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, said Kuwait’s air defense systems detected the hostile drones from early Saturday and successfully engaged and destroyed them.
He affirmed that the armed forces continue to carry out their duties with high efficiency and remain on full alert to protect the country’s sovereignty, security and stability in coordination with relevant government authorities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong condemnation of what it described as continued Iranian aggression against Kuwait, saying the attacks represent a violation of the country’s sovereignty and a direct threat to regional security.
In a statement, the ministry said the repeated attacks reflect a continued hostile approach aimed at undermining security and stability in the region and escalating tensions. It reaffirmed Kuwait’s right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, interests, resources, and the safety of citizens and residents.
The ministry also said the attacks violated international law, the United Nations Charter, principles of good neighborliness, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The latest attacks triggered widespread condemnation from Gulf and Arab countries, with several nations expressing solidarity with Kuwait and supporting measures taken to safeguard its security.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) strongly condemned the attacks, with Secretary-General Jassim Al-Budaiwi describing them as a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and a threat to regional stability. He reaffirmed the GCC’s full support for Kuwait’s efforts to protect its territory and security.
The United Arab Emirates also condemned the attacks, describing them as a violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and security, while expressing full solidarity with Kuwait.
Bahrain condemned what it called repeated attacks targeting civilian and vital facilities in Kuwait, praising the readiness of the Kuwaiti armed forces in intercepting and destroying hostile drones.
Jordan, Yemen, and the Muslim World League also issued statements condemning the attacks and expressing support for Kuwait.
Jordan described the strikes as a dangerous escalation and a breach of international law, while Yemen condemned the attacks as a threat to regional security.
The Muslim World League condemned attacks targeting Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt, stressing that strikes against civilian infrastructure violate international and humanitarian principles and pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
Kuwaiti authorities stressed that security forces remain fully prepared to respond to any threats and continue taking all necessary measures to protect the country and its people.
