PM Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah inspects T2 airport project, orders faster implementation
- Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah stresses inter-agency coordination to remove obstacles and keep the major aviation project on schedule
His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah on Tuesday inspected the new Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2 project, stressing the need to accelerate construction and strengthen coordination among government agencies to ensure the project remains on its approved timetable.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by Cabinet ministers, conducted the inspection on the sidelines of the Cabinet meeting held at the passenger terminal of the new airport project.
During the tour, Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Minister of Public Works Dr Noura Al-Mashaan, Chairman of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Hamoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and project officials briefed the Prime Minister and ministers on the project’s latest executive developments. The briefing covered progress across the project’s three main packages.
- Package One covers the construction, completion, furnishing and maintenance of the new passenger terminal.
- Package Two covers the construction, completion, furnishing and maintenance of service buildings, roads leading to the new terminal and parking areas.
- Package Three covers the construction, completion, furnishing and maintenance of aircraft parking areas, taxiways and service buildings serving the new passenger terminal.
Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah emphasized that T2 is one of Kuwait’s major development projects and a significant project for the country’s air transport sector. He called for continued cooperation and coordination among all government agencies and the Ministry of Public Works to overcome obstacles that could affect implementation and to accelerate the pace of work.
The Prime Minister also stressed the need to maintain steady progress in accordance with the timetable set for the project’s operation, describing the airport as a qualitative step for Kuwait’s air transport sector.
Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah thanked the ministers, project officials and government bodies involved in the project for their efforts to speed up implementation. Those agencies include the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Finance, State Audit Bureau, Fatwa and Legislation Department and Central Agency for Public Tenders.
The inspection comes as the government continues to monitor implementation of the project and coordinate the work of the various agencies involved in delivering the new terminal and its associated infrastructure.
