Kuwait diversifies exports while imports remain tied to key global suppliers

Amid accelerating global economic shifts and intensifying competition over supply chains and markets, Kuwait’s trade landscape is showing new dynamics.

Recent data from the Central Statistical Bureau highlights a nuanced picture: while export destinations are becoming more geographically diversified, imports remain heavily concentrated among a limited number of key partners.

According to the latest figures, the top five destinations for Kuwaiti exports accounted for around 8.5% of total exports, valued at approximately 1.8 billion dinars.

This reflects a relatively broad distribution of exports across global markets, even as certain countries maintain leading positions, reports Al-Anba daily.

The United Arab Emirates ranked as Kuwait’s largest export destination, receiving goods worth 583.47 million dinars; followed by India at 439.8 million dinars and Saudi Arabia with 338.9 million dinars. China came in fourth at 239.6 million dinars, while Iraq ranked fifth with 230.8 million dinars.

In contrast, import patterns reveal a high level of concentration. The top five supplier countries accounted for 52.6% of Kuwait’s total imports in 2025, amounting to 6.87 billion dinars—underscoring a significant reliance on a narrow group of trade partners.

China led as Kuwait’s largest source of imports, with goods valued at 2.68 billion dinars. The United Arab Emirates followed with 1.55 billion dinars, leveraging its role as a regional trade hub. The United States ranked third at 1.14 billion dinars, ahead of Japan with 827.1 million dinars and Saudi Arabia at 655.35 million dinars.

Overall, the data underscores a dual-track trade structure: expanding export outreach across multiple markets, alongside a concentrated import base anchored by major global and regional economies.
