Kuwait condemns Iranian attacks as ‘flagrant violation’ of sovereignty and international law

. . . urges UN Security Council action over repeated attacks on Gulf states; tells UNSC Gulf security is indivisible amid regional tensions

Kuwait has strongly condemned repeated Iranian attacks targeting its territory, airspace, and civilian and vital facilities, as well as strikes on the Kingdom of Bahrain, describing them as a flagrant violation of state sovereignty, international law, and the United Nations Charter.

In a statement delivered at the United Nations Security Council during an emergency session on “The situation in the Middle East,” Minister Plenipotentiary Faisal Al-Enezi, Chargé d’Affaires of Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the UN, said the meeting was convened at Bahrain’s request following recent Iranian attacks, including incidents on June 28.

Kuwait held Iran fully responsible for the attacks, stressing at the same time that it has not been—and will not be—a party to any military escalation, nor will it allow its territory, airspace, or waters to be used for hostile actions against any state.

Al-Enezi noted that Kuwait has faced hundreds of missile and drone attacks since the escalation began, some of which previously caused casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.

He said the vigilance of the armed forces and the effectiveness of air defenses had prevented greater losses, reaffirming that the protection of citizens, residents, and national territory remains an absolute priority.

He reiterated Kuwait’s full solidarity with Bahrain, stressing that the security of Gulf Cooperation Council states is indivisible, and that any attack on one Gulf state is an attack on the collective security of the region. He also welcomed international and regional condemnations of the attacks.

Kuwait urged the Security Council to assume its responsibilities, adopt a clear stance to halt the attacks, and ensure accountability to prevent further escalation, warning that failure to act could encourage continued violations and threaten regional and global security, including international navigation and energy supplies.

Despite the tensions, Kuwait reaffirmed its commitment to diplomacy and de-escalation, welcoming mediation efforts by regional partners and emphasizing that lasting security can only be achieved through dialogue and peaceful solutions grounded in respect for sovereignty and international law.

The statement concluded by underscoring that Gulf security is an integral part of global security, with regional stability directly linked to energy markets, international trade, and maritime safety.
