Kuwait signs $400m deal with Norway for advanced NASAMS air defense system

Norwegian defense company has announced that it will supply Kuwait with an advanced air defense system under an agreement with Raytheon through the United States Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

The contract, valued at approximately $400 million, covers the delivery of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS).

The company said the mobile NASAMS platform, developed in cooperation with Raytheon, is designed to enhance Kuwait’s ability to defend its population and critical infrastructure against aerial threats.

According to Kongsberg, the system is already in use by 15 other countries worldwide, reflecting its operational reliability and wide international adoption.

The deal comes amid heightened regional security concerns, as Kuwait has faced repeated aerial threats in recent escalations that have raised concerns over the protection of civilian and vital facilities, reports Al-Jarida daily

The agreement is seen as part of Kuwait’s broader efforts to strengthen its air defense capabilities and safeguard national security in line with international defense cooperation frameworks.
