Embassy of Indonesia holds Investment forum, outlines commercial opportunities

The event hosted by the Indonesian embassy in Kuwait highlighted Indonesia’s role as a key agricultural trade partner and offered Kuwaiti investors valuable insights into the opportunities the country presents.

H.E. Lena Maryana, the Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait, highlighted three key investment opportunities in Indonesia, each situated in a different region of the country, including projects in palm oil and tourism and emphasized the strong and stable investment ties between the two countries, notably in the oil and gas sectors.

Embassy of Indonesia held an investment forum under the banner of ‘Accelerating Sustainable Investment in Indonesia, on 7 November at the Regency Hotel in Kuwait. The forum brought together Indonesian entrepreneurs and Kuwaiti investors to explore the vast investment potential in the Indonesian economy.

Ambassador of Indonesia H.E. Lena Maryana along with senior officials from the Central Bank of Indonesia, and the Union of Investment Companies in Kuwait were present on the occasion.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Maryana highlighted the salient features of top investment opportunities in Indonesia’s various locations, including in palm oil and tourism projects.

The ambassador also stressed on the strong and stable relations and investment cooperation between both countries, especially in oil and gas sectors. In this regard, she pointed out that Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) had recently won bids to acquire drilling rights to two offshore oil producing blocks in Amana Operation Area and the Melati Operation Area.

She also revealed that bilateral trade volume between Indonesia and Kuwait Kuwait amounted to over US$488 million in 2023, and that this volume is set to increase as Indonesia considers Kuwait a strategic trade partner in the region.

For his part, Vice Chairman of the Union of Investment Companies (UIC) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) KAMCO Investment, Faisal M. Sarkhou,  emphasized that Indonesia is a top trade partner in agriculture and that the investment forum can provide to local investors the opportunities Indonesia has to offer.

Director of Central Bank of Indonesia Ms. Iss Hafid, in a brief interview with The Times Kuwait explained that the forum is an effort to promote investment in Indonesia and that her country considers Kuwait as a potential market.

“At the Central Bank of Indonesia we have regional relations unit through which we cooperate with embassies abroad to tap government projects and the bank then disseminates information and potential opportunities,” explained Ms. Hafid.  She added that the energy sector and the opening of the new capital of the country are among investment opportunities possible investors can look into. “We are also providing details and information on three top projects in different regions of the country and we hope that Kuwait investors can look into these projects” added Hafid.
