Fifa World Cup 2026

Gyökeres helps Sweden seal emphatic 5-1 victory against Tunisia

Sweden produced one of the standout performances of the FIFA World Cup so far with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Tunisia in a thrilling Group F clash.

The Swedes combined attacking flair with clinical finishing to overpower Tunisia and move into a strong position in the race for a place in the knockout stages.

Tunisia started the match brightly and showed attacking intent in the opening minutes, pressing aggressively and looking dangerous on the counterattack. However, Sweden gradually settled into the contest and began dominating possession through the creativity of Emil Forsberg and the movement of Alexander Isak.

Sweden opened the scoring midway through the first half when Isak finished calmly from close range after a slick passing move carved open the Tunisian defence. Tunisia responded positively and managed to level the score before halftime with a powerful long-range effort that gave the Swedish goalkeeper no chance.

The second half belonged entirely to Sweden. The Scandinavian side increased the tempo and repeatedly exposed gaps in Tunisia’s back line with quick attacks down the wings.

Forsberg restored Sweden’s lead with a composed finish after a defensive error, before substitute Viktor Gyökeres added a third with a low strike inside the penalty area. Sweden continued to press forward and sealed the victory late in the game with another clinical counterattacking goal that completed a dominant display.

Tunisia struggled to contain Sweden’s pace and movement in the second half and failed to create enough clear opportunities to mount a comeback despite determined efforts from their midfield.

The convincing result gives Sweden a major boost ahead of their crucial upcoming clash against the Netherlands, while Tunisia now face mounting pressure to defeat Japan in their next Group F encounter to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
