Fifa World Cup 2026

FIFA adds championship rings to World Cup glory; Trump to attend final

FIFA will award commemorative championship rings to the winners of Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, introducing a new tradition inspired by major American sports.

A total of 30 gold championship rings will be presented to members of the victorious team, while 1,996 limited-edition rings will be made available for fans.

Each ring features a miniature FIFA World Cup trophy and an engraved inner band commemorating the tournament.

The World Cup final at MetLife Stadium will also be attended by US President Donald Trump, who is expected to present the World Cup trophy to the champions.

The White House confirmed his attendance after FIFA President Gianni Infantino had earlier announced that Trump would be present at the showpiece event, according to BBC.

Although Trump has attended several major sporting events during his presidency, including the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, US Open, Ryder Cup and UFC events, he has not attended any of the tournament’s 102 matches, including those involving the United States before its Round of 16 exit to Belgium.

The final comes despite an air quality advisory issued for the New York area due to Canadian wildfires. However, authorities have indicated there is currently no expectation that the conditions will affect Sunday’s match.
