German Unity Day celebration highlights enduring friendship, growing bilateral cooperation
The German Ambassador-designate to Kuwait H.E. Dr. Dirk Rottenberg has affirmed the depth of relations between Germany and Kuwait, describing the longstanding ties as being built on friendship, trust and mutual respect, while expressing Germany’s interest in further strengthening cooperation across a wide range of fields.
Rottenberg made the remarks during a reception hosted by the German Embassy at Al-Raya Hall to mark the German Unity Day. The celebration was attended by Minister of Education Eng. Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabaei, senior officials, diplomats and members of the German community in Kuwait.
The ambassador expressed appreciation to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah for their congratulatory messages to the German President and government on German Unity Day, saying the messages reflect the depth of friendship and distinguished relations between the two countries.
The envoy said German-Kuwaiti relations have a solid foundation, noting the growing momentum in high-level exchanges and contacts between the two countries. He highlighted the Kuwaiti foreign minister’s visit to Germany and his talks with German Foreign Minister Dr. Johann Wadephul last September as reflecting the strength of bilateral relations and the shared desire to expand cooperation.
He said bilateral cooperation extends beyond the political sphere to economic and investment sectors, including energy, technology, artificial intelligence, security, education and academic cooperation, as well as other areas of mutual interest. Germany also looks forward to strengthening cooperation with Kuwait through regional and international organizations, he added, stressing the importance of joint action in addressing global challenges.
Reflecting on the significance of German Unity Day, Rottenberg said the fall of the Berlin Wall and Germany’s peaceful reunification represented a historic milestone that demonstrated the ability of peoples to achieve profound change through peaceful means.
He noted that this year’s commemoration comes as conflicts and crises continue in different parts of the world, making the German experience particularly relevant as a reminder of the importance of peace, dialogue and cooperation. The anniversary, he added, highlights the importance of overcoming divisions and building bridges between countries and peoples.
Rottenberg also reaffirmed Germany’s solidarity with Kuwait, its leadership and people, praising the country’s resilience and its ability to confront the security challenges and instability affecting the region. He expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s armed forces and security agencies for their continued efforts to defend the country and protect its security, stressing Germany’s support for Kuwait and its efforts to preserve national security and stability.
The ambassador also thanked members of the German community in Kuwait, saying they feel safe and protected and receive care and support. He praised Kuwait for providing a welcoming and friendly environment for the German community.
Concluding his remarks, Rottenberg reaffirmed that German-Kuwaiti relations rest on a strong foundation of friendship, trust and mutual respect, expressing hope for greater cooperation and partnership between the two countries in the years ahead.
