IEI Kuwait seminar focuses on corrosion protection and industrial asset integrity

The Institution of Engineers (India) – Kuwait Chapter (IEI-KC) held its first technical seminar of the 2026-27 term in collaboration with Integrated Global Services (IGS), bringing together engineers and industry professionals to discuss corrosion protection, asset integrity and technologies aimed at extending the service life of critical industrial equipment.
Held at the Regency Ballroom, Hyatt Regency, Al Kout Mall, the seminar focused on challenges facing the oil and gas industry, including corrosion and erosion, equipment integrity and operational efficiency. IGS Technical Business Development Manager Rohit Kardile presented High-Velocity Thermal Spray, explaining how dense alloy cladding can be applied in situ to protect equipment and extend asset life while minimizing downtime. The session drew on his experience in asset integrity and corrosion management.

IGS Managing Director, Global Welding Operations Antoni Olgierd discussed automated weld overlay and tube-integrity technologies, including corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) weld overlay for restoring and protecting process equipment, as well as automated processes designed to improve overlay consistency and cleaning and inspection technologies for tubes.
IGS Regional Director Shyam Barshikar highlighted the company’s work with KIPIC, KNPC and KOC. He cited the application of HVTS on ARDS product strippers at the KIPIC refinery and addressed fired-heater efficiency and ways of reducing the carbon footprint of industrial assets.

The seminar also saw participation by Kuwaiti engineers Fahad and Naif, reflecting cooperation between Kuwaiti and Indian engineering professionals working in the country’s energy and industrial sectors.
The event was attended by Chief Guest Ahmed Ali J. Al-Sabah, General Manager of SATCO ENERGY and the Chapter’s presenting sponsor. IEI-KC Chairman Kartikeyan Elangovan outlined the Chapter’s vision for the 2026-27 term.
The programme also marked IEI-KC’s 30 years of service in Kuwait, with the launch of a short film highlighting its activities and the introduction of its new newsletter, IEI Dhwani.
