Expat woman arrested over Instagram domestic worker scam
CID men from the Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorate have arrested an Asian woman for defrauding more than 25 Kuwaiti citizens through an Instagram account that falsely offered domestic worker recruitment services.
According to security sources, the suspect contacted individuals seeking household workers and sent them photographs and contracts designed to appear as though she was operating a licensed recruitment business.
She allegedly requested advance payments ranging between KD300 and KD500 before cutting off all communication with victims.
Authorities said several victims later discovered they had been blocked after they had transferred the money for services, prompting multiple complaints at the Mubarak Al-Kabeer police station, including reports filed by five Kuwaiti citizens from the governorate.
The case was subsequently referred to detectives, who coordinated with the Cybercrime Department to identify and apprehend the suspect.
Investigators reportedly recovered four mobile phones and several SIM cards believed to have been used in the fraudulent operation.
During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to exploiting the high demand for domestic workers by attracting victims with offers and prices significantly below prevailing market rates.
