A women’s football delegation from North Korea arrived at Incheon International Airport on Sunday to participate in the AFC Women’s Champions League semi-final, marking the first visit by North Korean athletes to South Korea for a sporting event in nearly eight years.
The delegation represents Naeguhyang FC, which is scheduled to face Suwon FC Women on May 20 at Suwon Stadium.
The match is set to kick off at 7:00 pm local time and is being viewed as a significant sporting and symbolic moment amid the long absence of North Korean teams from competitions hosted in the South.
The last participation by North Korean athletes in a sporting event in South Korea was during the ITTF World Tour Grand Finals held in Incheon in December 2018.
