Eight killed, 32 injured in fatal train-bus crash in Thailand

Train driver charged with negligence

A train driver in Thailand has been charged with negligence causing death following a deadly collision between a freight train and a bus at a railway crossing in Bangkok that left eight people dead and 32 others injured.

Police said evidence indicated “reckless conduct” contributed to the crash, which investigators believe could have been prevented.

Authorities confirmed that the bus driver, who is still receiving treatment for injuries, is also expected to face charges once he is medically fit for questioning.

Preliminary findings suggest the bus had stopped on the railway tracks after being caught at a red light, preventing crossing barriers from fully closing.

Investigators say the freight train, carrying containers, was unable to stop in time before the impact.

The collision triggered a massive fire that engulfed the bus and nearby vehicles, prompting a large emergency response. Firefighters and rescue teams worked through the wreckage at the scene near Bangkok’s Airport Rail Link Makkasan station to recover victims and assist the injured.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and have not ruled out additional charges. Officials say the case highlights ongoing concerns over road safety enforcement at railway crossings in Thailand, where traffic-related fatalities remain among the highest globally.
