Commerce Ministry registers 511 violations in consumer protection drive across six governorates

Kuwait steps up market oversight as Arabic language and pricing violations top list

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Kuwait) announced that a total of 511 violations were recorded across Kuwait’s six governorates during the period from February 28 to March 30, 2026, as part of ongoing inspection campaigns targeting commercial establishments.

The ministry said in statistics reported to the Kuwait News Agency that the most common violation was the failure to use the Arabic language, with 205 cases, followed by not displaying prices (128 cases), and not providing visible Arabic notices explaining exchange and return policies (77 cases).

Other violations included non-compliance with fixed food pricing regulations (57 cases) and the publication of misleading advertisements containing false information or incorrect prices for goods and services (44 cases), reflecting continued monitoring of consumer protection standards, reports Al-Rai daily.

At the governorate level, Al-Ahmadi recorded the highest number of Arabic language violations (96 cases), along with breaches related to exchange and return notices, pricing display, and invoice requirements. Al-Jahra also reported multiple violations, including non-compliance with food pricing rules and failure to issue invoices to consumers.

The Capital Governorate recorded violations linked to exchange policies, language requirements, misleading advertisements, and pricing disclosures, while Farwaniya saw repeated breaches involving Arabic usage, price display, product data, and invoice issuance.

Hawalli Governorate reported violations related to misleading advertisements, restricted product sales such as chewing tobacco and energy drinks, and non-compliance with language requirements. Meanwhile, Mubarak Al-Kabeer recorded violations including price manipulation without approval, failure to display prices, and non-compliance with exchange policies.

The ministry also confirmed that enforcement teams carried out 340 inspection tours across all governorates, with the highest in the Capital and Al-Jahra, followed by Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Farwaniya, Hawalli, and Al-Ahmadi.

It reaffirmed the continuation of intensive market monitoring campaigns aimed at protecting consumers, ensuring compliance with regulations, and taking legal action against violators in accordance with applicable laws.
