Anti-Narcotics officers brave gunfire to arrest drug trafficker in Qurain

In a high-stakes, pre-dawn operation that nearly turned fatal, personnel from the Directorate-General for Drugs Control were peppered with a hail of gunfire while attempting to arrest a notorious drug trafficker in the suburb of Al-Qurain.

The dramatic confrontation ended with the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of multiple illegal firearms and ammunition, marking a major success in the nation’s ongoing war on drugs.

According to a senior security source, the raid was led and directly supervised by Major General Hamed Al-Dawas, Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs, with assistance from Brigadier General Mohammed Qabazard, Director General of the Anti-Narcotics Department, and Brigadier General Sheikh Hamad Al-Yousef, Assistant Director-General in addition to units from emergency services, traffic police, while public security provided support at the scene.

The operation was launched after authorities received intelligence on the suspect, a Kuwaiti citizen former drug convict who has served time – for possessing over one million Captagon pills — and was recently released.

He reportedly resumed his illicit activities of trafficking in narcotics and weapons.

The Al-Anba daily said, after a warrant was issued by the Public Prosecution, and the plainclothesmen encircled the suspect’s home, he opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest, firing several rounds at law enforcement officers.

Miraculously, no injuries were reported, and the suspect was overpowered and arrested by anti-narcotics officers, who then seized his weapon on the spot and later found three additional pistols and a cache of bullets during a thorough search of his residence.

The operation continued at the suspect’s farm and stables in the Wafra area, believed to be used for concealing narcotics. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s criminal holdings.

The source revealed that the Public Prosecution is now weighing multiple charges, including possession of unlicensed firearms, attempted murder of law enforcement officers, and resisting arrest — crimes that carry penalties of up to life imprisonment under Kuwaiti law.
