Al-Hai inspects Sulaibiya Farms and measures taken to contain foot-and-mouth outbreak
PAAAFR Director-General reassures the public that tests have proven cow milk and meat are safe for consumption

Salem Al-Hai, Director-General of the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources, has reiterated that the foot-and-mouth disease in Sulaibiya cattle farms is under control.
He went on to say, “As of yesterday, 2,662 cases were recorded, with 10 cows having died. The situation is stable, and a vaccine is expected to arrive within two weeks to further contain the disease.”
Al-Hai reassured the public that cow milk and meat are safe for consumption, and tests have proven. According to Al-Rai daily, he clarified that the virus likely entered Kuwait from neighboring countries affected by the disease, with recent winds and dust storms possibly contributing to the spread.
He dismissed rumors that the infection came from imported cows from Australia or Kenya, as all imported cows undergo a strict quarantine and vaccination process.
During a field tour, Al-Hai inspected veterinary measures at the Sulaibiya Farms and visited one of the affected farms, where milk production had declined from 17 tons to 7 tons per day due to infection.
He called the closure of the Kabd and Sulaibiya markets, “a precaution measure” to protect livestock, and consumers should visit approved slaughterhouses.
