Kuwait’s holdings of US Treasury securities hit record $68.82 billion

Kuwait increased its holdings of US Treasury securities by 18.55 percent year-on-year at the end of June, adding $10.77 billion and taking its total holdings to a record $68.82 billion, compared with $58.05 billion at the end of June 2025.

According to the US Treasury Department’s monthly report, Kuwait’s holdings also rose by about 3.01 percent, or $2.01 billion, from May 2026, when they stood at $66.81 billion.



During the first half of 2026, Kuwait’s investments in US Treasury securities increased by $2.77 billion, or 4.19 percent, from $66.05 billion at the end of 2025. Long-term Treasury securities continued to account for the bulk of Kuwait’s holdings, at $66.66 billion, while short-term securities amounted to about $2.16 billion.

Saudi Arabia leads Arab investors

Saudi Arabia remained the largest Arab investor in US Treasury securities, with holdings of $142.5 billion, ranking 17th globally. The UAE followed in the Arab world and ranked 19th globally, with holdings valued at $114.8 billion.

Japan retained its position as the world’s largest holder of US Treasury securities, with holdings of $1.12 trillion, followed by the United Kingdom with $939.9 billion and China with $633.4 billion.

oreign holdings of US Treasury securities totaled about $9.30 trillion at the end of June 2026, up 2.31 percent from $9.09 trillion a year earlier, although the total declined by 0.75 percent on a monthly basis.

The US Treasury Department’s monthly data covers countries’ holdings of US Treasury bills and bonds and does not include other government or private-sector investments in the United States.
