Cabinet Approves Islamic New Year Holiday Plan

Kuwait’s Cabinet, during its meeting on Wednesday chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, approved the arrangements for the Islamic New Year holiday for (Hijri year 1448).
In a statement, the Cabinet said that two possible scenarios have been set depending on the sighting of the moon and the number of days in Dhu Al-Hijjah 1447 AH.
In the first scenario, if Dhu Al-Hijjah consists of 29 days, Tuesday, June 16, will be an official holiday for all ministries, government bodies, public institutions and authorities on the occasion of the Islamic New Year, with official work resuming on Wednesday, June 17.
In the second scenario, if Dhu Al-Hijjah consists of 30 days, Wednesday, June 17, will be the official holiday, while Thursday, June 18, will be considered a rest day as it falls between two holidays. Official work would then resume on Sunday, June 21.
The Cabinet noted that authorities with special work requirements will determine their holiday schedules through their administrations in accordance with the public interest.
On the occasion, the Cabinet extended its sincere congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti people and residents, praying for continued prosperity and blessings for Kuwait and the Arab and Islamic nations.
