US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran has informed the United States that it is in a state of “collapse” and is still in the process of determining its leadership for the coming period.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that Iran told the US it is “in a state of collapse” and wants to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible while working to define its leadership structure, adding that he believes it will be able to do so.
The White House said on Monday that Trump held a meeting with his national security team in Washington to discuss an Iranian proposal aimed at ending the war amid continued tensions between the two sides.
The meeting comes as diplomatic efforts continue to contain tensions with Iran amid fears of further military escalation in the Middle East.
Washington continues to exert economic pressure on Iran through sanctions and maritime restrictions, while also signaling the possibility of resuming military action.
