Appeals Court upholds ruling in utility fraud case, orders repayment of 907,000 dinars

Seven-year sentences issued in absentia against two Egyptians upheld as court confirms damages in public funds case

The Court of Appeal has upheld the verdict of the Criminal Court in a case involving the manipulation of electricity and water bills and embezzling public funds estimated at nearly half a million dinars.

The court confirmed the decision to refrain from imposing criminal penalties on the accused citizens, while ordering them jointly to repay approximately 907,000 dinars, reports Al-Rai daily.

It also upheld the suspension of proceedings against two Egyptian accused who were tried in absentia and sentenced to seven years in prison.

The case was filed by the Ministry of Electricity and Water and involves multiple people, including property owners, an employee of the ministry, a citizen, and expatriates, all accused of involvement in the violations.
