Kuwait wins five medals at West Asian Youth Athletics Championship in Beirut

The Kuwaiti national athletics team delivered an impressive performance at the 3rd West Asian Athletics Championship for Youth (U-20), capturing two gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze on Friday in the Lebanese capital.

Asian champion Mohammed Al-Duaij reaffirmed his regional dominance by taking gold in the high jump with a spectacular leap of 2.07 meters, setting a new personal best in the process. His victory added another highlight to an already distinguished record on the continental stage.

The second gold came from rising star Meshari Al-Mutairi, who stormed to victory in the 110m hurdles with a remarkable time of 14.12 seconds, cementing his reputation as one of the fastest young hurdlers in the region.

In the same race, teammate Jassim Al-Qenaei clinched silver with an excellent run of 14.14 seconds, giving Kuwait a rare one-two finish on the podium.

Elsewhere on the track, Saad Al-Rashidi earned silver in the 800m race after a strong performance in a fiercely contested final. Despite carrying an injury into the tournament, Abdul Latif Faisal showed grit and determination to secure bronze in the same event.

The championship, which runs until October 5, features athletes from Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Yemen, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, and Lebanon.

Kuwait’s five-medal haul on opening day underscores the country’s growing strength in youth athletics and signals a promising future for the next generation of champions.
