Saudi National Day in Kuwait carries special significance, says Ambassador

Saudi National Day carries a special significance in Kuwait, Saudi Ambassador to Kuwait and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Prince Sultan bin Saad bin Khalid Al Saud said, pointing to the historic role Kuwait played in the early stages of the Kingdom’s unification.
In a telephone interview with the News Channel, Prince Sultan said the National Day is an occasion to remember the unification of Saudi Arabia under its founder, King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, and the decades of nation-building and development that followed. “The process of unifying Saudi Arabia began from here in Kuwait, and therefore celebrating the National Day in Kuwait has a special meaning,” the ambassador said.
He described the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on Saudi Arabia’s history, achievements and development, saying the ambitions of the Kingdom’s founder had gradually been transformed into tangible progress. Prince Sultan also expressed his hope that celebrations would continue between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He said the close ties between the peoples of the region make national occasions a shared source of celebration.
Founder’s vision
Reflecting on King Abdulaziz’s legacy, Prince Sultan said the founder understood that unifying the country was essential to establishing a stable state capable of pursuing long-term development. He said Saudi Arabia’s present-day development should be viewed as part of a longer process that began with unification and continued through successive stages of institution-building, planning and economic and social development under the Kingdom’s leaders.
“Achieving accomplishments requires a clear vision, determination, investment in people and continuity of effort,” he said, describing these as principles that have accompanied Saudi Arabia’s development since its establishment. The ambassador highlighted the Saudi citizen as one of the key outcomes of the Kingdom’s long development journey, pointing to the growing role of Saudi nationals across different sectors.
He said the Kingdom continues to build on the foundations established by King Abdulaziz and developed by successive generations of Saudi leaders, with a focus on advancing its citizens and strengthening the country’s position internationally. Prince Sultan said Saudi Arabia’s current progress is the result of accumulated experience, planning and development rather than the product of a single period.
Kuwait-Saudi ties span more than 150 years
On relations between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Prince Sultan described the ties as “exceptional”, saying their depth cannot be fully captured in books or historical accounts. He said the relationship goes beyond formal diplomatic ties and is rooted in more than 150 years of shared history and connections.
“The relations between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are greater than being confined to a single political, economic or social framework,” he said. According to the ambassador, the relationship has remained resilient through changing circumstances because of the strength of its historical foundations.
He pointed to religion, customs, traditions and social values as among the principal common bonds between Kuwaitis and Saudis, alongside values such as generosity, chivalry and solidarity. Prince Sultan said Saudi Arabia’s transformation across different sectors reflects a cumulative process of nation-building that began with the establishment of the Kingdom and continued through successive phases of planning and development.
He identified investment in people, the economy and infrastructure, together with sustained planning and work, as important foundations of the Kingdom’s development. He added that Saudi Arabia’s leadership is continuing to build on the work of previous generations, with the aim of further advancing the Saudi citizen and strengthening the Kingdom’s position.
Prince Sultan said Saudi Vision 2030 forms part of this continuing approach, focusing on developing human capabilities, strengthening the national economy and supporting the Kingdom’s future.
