Court orders Dr. Behbehani to pay KD 50,000 fine

. . . found guilty of inciting sectarian conflict

The Criminal Court has ordered Dr. Abdul Mutalib Behbehani to pay 50,000 dinars fine after finding him guilty of inciting sectarian strife through tweets posted from his X (formerly Twitter) account.

The case was brought forward under a complaint filed by Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior.

According to court documents, Behbehani’s posts were judged to have inflamed sectarian tensions and violated public order laws. The ruling carries weight amid heightened scrutiny in the country over speech that might provoke religious or sectarian discord.
