- Sheikh Sabah Khaled takes part in high-level talks on regional security, maritime navigation, energy supplies and Gaza, while advancing Kuwait’s strategic, diplomatic and investment partnerships on the UNGA sidelines.
Kuwait stepped up its diplomatic and economic engagement on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly as His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, joined a high-level meeting hosted by US President Donald Trump with Arab and Islamic leaders and heads of delegations.
The meeting focused on the rapidly evolving security situation in the Middle East, including attacks involving regional states, the safety and freedom of maritime navigation, the stability of global energy supplies and the continuing situation in the Gaza Strip. Participants also stressed the importance of continued strategic coordination with the United States in support of regional and international security, de-escalation efforts and a comprehensive and just peace.
For Kuwait, the discussions carry particular significance given the country’s position in the Gulf and its interests in regional stability, secure maritime routes and uninterrupted energy flows. The Crown Prince’s participation also underlined Kuwait’s continued engagement with major international partners at a time when regional security issues remain closely linked to economic and energy considerations.
The Crown Prince’s UNGA programme extended beyond the security agenda, with a series of bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening Kuwait’s international partnerships. He met the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Al-Fahmy, to discuss Arab cooperation, coordination on regional issues at international forums and developments in the region and beyond.
He also held talks with the prime ministers of Egypt and Iraq and the president of Senegal, reviewing bilateral relations, prospects for cooperation and regional and international developments.
A significant bilateral outcome came from the Crown Prince’s meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, where Kuwait and Pakistan agreed to work towards establishing a strategic dialogue chaired by the two countries’ foreign ministers. The proposed mechanism is intended to provide a regular institutional framework for consultation, coordination and the advancement of bilateral relations.
The Crown Prince also met the presidents of Poland and Somalia, as well as the prime ministers of Rwanda and Lebanon, with discussions covering bilateral relations, cooperation opportunities and wider regional and international developments.
Kuwait’s economic interests were also prominent in the Crown Prince’s New York engagements. He held meetings with senior leaders of three major global financial and investment institutions, KKR, Goldman Sachs and BlackRock, focusing on investment opportunities, cooperation, market developments and the global economy. The discussions also covered the development of national capabilities and the exchange of expertise in Kuwait’s financial and investment sectors, placing investment and human-capital development alongside the country’s broader diplomatic agenda.
The series of meetings reflects Kuwait’s approach of combining political engagement with economic and investment outreach during high-level international gatherings. With regional security, energy markets and global economic conditions closely interconnected, Kuwait is using the UNGA platform to maintain dialogue with strategic partners while exploring opportunities for deeper commercial and financial cooperation.
The US-hosted meeting was attended by a broad group of Arab and Islamic leaders and senior officials, including the leaders of Jordan, Qatar, Türkiye and Syria, as well as representatives from Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain.
Kuwait’s participation placed the Crown Prince at the centre of discussions on the region’s security environment while reinforcing the country’s wider diplomatic and economic engagement during the UN General Assembly’s high-level week.
