KFAED over six decades has supported development in over 105 nations

Since its founding in 1961, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has stood as the first development agency created by a developing nation. Over the past six decades, it has supported sustainable development projects in more than 105 countries, improving the lives of millions.

In its initial years, the Fund faced obstacles, particularly due to the lack of reliable project data. Nonetheless, it laid a strong foundation by allocating over $1.2 billion in technical grants for feasibility studies. Even during the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the Fund remained committed to its mission, reports Al-Rai daily.

Historically focused on infrastructure — such as transportation, agriculture, and energy — KFAED has since expanded into education, healthcare, and environmental sectors. In recent years, it has emphasized socially impactful projects, including the construction of schools, hospitals, and clean water systems.

KFAED’s current strategy prioritizes investments in people, believing that education, health, and community empowerment form the foundation of lasting development. By partnering with global organizations and local governments, it aims to create deep, sustainable change in underserved communities.

Now more than 60 years old, the Fund represents Kuwait’s commitment to humanitarian leadership and international cooperation. Its history and approach have positioned it as a model for development work, symbolizing a national vision anchored in generosity, solidarity, and progress.
