Ministry restores electricity to agricultural and industrial areas

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy stated that power has been restored to Abdali, Wafra, Al-Rai, Al-Sulaibiya, Amghara, and Subhan.

  • On August 17, the electricity index in Kuwait showed a rise in loads, nearing the 17,000-MW threshold and reaching 16,918 MWs, which placed it in the middle of the orange zone and approaching the red zone.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy has announced that power has been fully restored to all agricultural and industrial areas following previously scheduled outages intended to maintain the stability of the country’s electrical system, according to Al Anba newspaper.

The ministry stated that power has been restored to the areas where outages occurred, including Abdali, Wafra, Al-Rai, Al-Sulaibiya, Amghara, and Subhan.

The ministry had previously announced a complete shutdown of gas processing units by the Kuwait National Petroleum Company, which led to a reduction in the quality of gas supplied to some electricity generation units in power plants and water distillation facilities. It explained that, as a result, electrical loads on those units were reduced to preserve the stability of the electrical system. The Kuwait National Petroleum Company has since resumed operation of the gas processing units, and the situation is being monitored.

The ministry indicated at the time that it might, regrettably, be forced to cut off power to some non-residential areas if necessary to maintain the stability of the country’s electrical system.

The ministry also stated that any new updates regarding the status of the electrical network would be announced through the ministry’s official social media accounts. It urged customers to conserve electricity during the upcoming peak hours by following its guidelines.

On Saturday, the electricity index showed an increase in loads, nearing the 17,000-megawatt threshold and reaching 16,918 megawatts, which placed it in the middle of the orange zone and approaching the red zone. This increase occurred after the ministry reduced its production due to issues with processed gas.
