KFF warns against leaving burning incense unattended inside wardrobes

  • Officials caution that sparks from incense burners placed near clothing or inside closets can trigger fires, urge families to keep them away from children

The Kuwait Fire Department has warned citizens and residents against leaving burning incense unattended, particularly inside wardrobes or near clothing, cautioning that a single spark can ignite fabric and start a fire at home.

Amir Zaki, a spokesperson for the department, highlighted the risk in an awareness video posted on its social media accounts. He noted that although burning incense is a common daily custom and tradition, it must be handled carefully to prevent household accidents.

The department cautioned that placing an incense burner inside a wardrobe and leaving it unattended can allow sparks to ignite clothing, potentially causing a fire. Residents were urged to keep burning incense away from clothes and other flammable materials and to ensure that burners are not left unattended.

The department also warned families against leaving incense or incense burners within children’s reach. Young children may lack the awareness and experience needed to handle burning materials safely, increasing the risk of injury.

The awareness message emphasized the importance of following basic fire-safety precautions when using incense at home. The department did not provide statistics on fires caused by unattended incense burners, but stressed the need for vigilance to prevent avoidable incidents.
