The United States has summoned Iraq’s ambassador in Washington following a drone attack on a major American diplomatic facility in Baghdad, the State Department confirmed in an official statement.
The move comes after a drone struck a key support center for US diplomatic operations near Baghdad International Airport, amid escalating regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, Al-Rai daily reports.
US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau conveyed Washington’s strong concern over the incident, stressing the Iraqi government’s responsibility to ensure the protection of foreign diplomatic missions on its soil.
The targeted facility serves as a logistical hub supporting US diplomatic staff, including administrative and residential functions, and is considered a critical component of American operations in Iraq.
