5.5 million square meter Jahra Waterfront Project approved, existing chalets to go

An extra 15,000 square meters will be designated for future activities and used for green spaces, corridors, open areas, and parking, which will not be commercially exploited.

The detailed plan for the Jahra Waterfront Project, divided into three areas (A, B, and C), has been approved and must adhere to the specified components and uses.

The technical committee of the municipal council, chaired by Munira Al-Amir, has approved the Jahra Waterfront project, according to Al Anba newspaper.

It included the following technical opinions:

First: Approving the allocation of the location extending between the borders of the Western Doha Station to the east and the Jahra Nature Reserve to the west, covering an area of 5,794,715 m², for Kuwait Municipality. This will remain in place until it is submitted to the private sector by the laws and procedures governing the development and investment in the Jahra (Corniche) waterfront project, with the condition that the following apply.

  1. Commitment to and compliance with the requirements of the service ministries, along with coordination with them before implementation.
  2. Authorizing the competent department to displace or modify the dimensions, shape, or area of the site if it conflicts with existing infrastructure services or for any organizational reasons.
  3. Commitment to and implementation of the laws and requirements of the Environment Public Authority, ensuring the authority is consulted before and during the implementation phase to obtain environmental approval.
  4. Compliance with the traffic study approved by the General Directorate of Traffic – Ministry of Interior.

Second: Approving the detailed general plan of the project, including the components, uses, construction areas, and rental areas for the waterfront project in Jahra(Corniche). The project is divided into three areas—A, B, and C—according to the final reports submitted by the attached consultant. It is required that the project adheres to the specified components.

Third: Coordinating with the Ministry of Finance to work on the removal of the chalets located within the boundaries of the waterfront project site in Jahra, in line with the requirements set by the Environment Public Authority.

Fourth: Adding an area equivalent to 15,000 m² to accommodate future needs for activities such as mobile vehicle operations, exhibition events, and service machines with diverse material returns. This area will be utilized after obtaining a license from Kuwait Municipality. The required space will be used for green spaces, corridors, open areas, and parking, which will not be commercially exploited.

Fifth: Cancelling any previous decisions that conflict with the project site.

Munira Al-Amir stated that the committee has kept the request for the reorganization of plot No. 14 on its agenda. This plot includes several vouchers, the Salhiya station, and public facilities in the Qibla area, and will be addressed under the rules and conditions of the organizational parts. The committee will wait until representatives from the Structural Plan Department are invited.

Additionally, the committee acknowledged the response from the executive regarding a letter submitted by the Mukhtar of Failaka Island, Counsellor Ali Abdul Wahab Al-Naqi, concerning the appropriation of the remaining properties on Failaka Island.
