Danni Wyatt-Hodge produced a match-winning all-round performance as England Women opened their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a commanding 87-run victory over Sri Lanka at Edgbaston.
The experienced opener smashed an unbeaten 105 off 62 balls, registering her third T20I century and her first since returning from maternity leave. Supported by Amy Jones (53) and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt (46*), Wyatt-Hodge helped England post a formidable 219 for 1 after being put in to bat.
England’s revamped opening pair set the tone early with a blistering 135-run partnership from just 82 deliveries. Jones provided the perfect support act, while Wyatt-Hodge accelerated confidently through the innings, reaching her half-century in 33 balls before bringing up a memorable century in the final over. Her trademark baby-rocking celebration reflected the personal significance of the milestone.
Sciver-Brunt’s return from a calf injury also provided a major boost for England. Batting with freedom and authority, she struck an unbeaten 46 from just 22 balls, showcasing the form and timing that make her one of the world’s most dangerous batters.
