The Republican-controlled U.S. Senate on Wednesday blocked, for the fourth time in a row, a bill introduced by Democrats that would have prevented launching new attacks on Iran without obtaining congressional authorization.
By a vote of 47-52, the Senate did not agree on the motion to discharge S. J. Res. 123, The Duckworth War Powers Resolution regarding Iran.
It was the fourth time Democrats in the Senate had forced a vote on the issue since the war began on February 28.
The resolution, led by Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, would have directed President Trump “to remove the United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against Iran, unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or a specific authorization for use of military force.
