“First of all, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Qesatifor their incredible work in organizing this event and bringing together a vibrant community of volunteer champions. I also want to thank our special speakers for sharing their personal journeys with us. And to each one of you here this evening, your presence reflects the commitment of the people of Kuwait toward volunteering and social participation to make the world a better place. With this opportunity, I would also like to express my special thanks to the UN Volunteers in Kuwait, as well as the online UNVs, the digital powerhouses of the UN, who continue to empower both international and local communities to move toward the Sustainable Development Goals,” the United Nations Resident Coordinator said.
Eltahir Mudawi said, “This session commemorates ‘International Volunteer Day,’ observed annually on December 5, to recognize the contributions of volunteers and foster the spirit of volunteerism. Volunteering is the backbone of community engagement for inclusive and resilient societies. Today, as we face more global challenges than ever, ranging from conflicts to climate change, volunteers—who are often on the frontlines and in direct contact with affected communities—are the true unsung heroes, uniting the world by spreading positivity.
“Kuwait stands out as an exceptional country, leading by example, where volunteers, communities, and civil society-based organizations drive positive and influential change. To the volunteers of Kuwait, you motivate the UN team daily with your dedication and passion,” the UNResident Coordinator said.
“The UN holds volunteers in the highest regard, as they truly live by the principles of “leaving no one behind” and sustainable development. As the United Nations in Kuwait is committed to promoting the spirit of volunteerism and engaging communities in making a difference, our doors at the UN House are always open for you to come and discuss solutions for a peaceful, equitable, and sustainable future with us,” she added.
The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has said, “Volunteers embody the best of humanity. Let’s draw inspiration from their example, and resolve to do our part to help shape a better world for all.” I wholeheartedly wish you a fun and enriching evening listening to the inspiring personal journeys and hope that the stories ignite a flame inside you to be active agents of change for your own communities. Thank you,” said the UN Resident Coordinator.
