Two domestic workers, Egyptian arrested for trafficking in drugs
Personnel from the General Department for Drugs Control have arrested three people and seized from them six kilos of narcotics in following an investigation into a suspected drug distribution network.
The suspects who were caught in Salmiya and have been referred to the Public Prosecution, are two female domestic workers holding Article 20 residency visas and an unemployed expatriate holding an Article 18 residency visa. They face drug trafficking charges.
According to security sources, officers received information that an Asian woman had placed suspicious packages near an abandoned vehicle in a vacant area in Salmiya. Anti-narcotics officers moved to the location and discovered that the packages contained drugs.
The woman was identified, and officers armed with a search and arrest warrant raided her residence and found quantities of narcotics prepared for distribution. Another woman was also arrested during the operation.
During questioning, the two women admitted involvement in drug distribution, saying they received instructions from an Egyptian man who contacted them by phone and directed them to deliver narcotics to specific locations.
They allegedly used their status as domestic workers to avoid suspicion and reduce the chances of being searched.
Investigators also found that the women had been paying bribes to avoid working for their sponsor, according to the source.
After obtaining legal approval from the Public Prosecution, anti-narcotics officers raided the Egyptian man’s apartment in Salmiya and arrested him. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of more than six kilograms of narcotics, including crystal meth, hashish and Lyrica.
The suspect reportedly confessed to being involved in drug trafficking. The three suspects have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.
